"Helen Keller tells us how it used to be."
I never thought much about how somebody listens to music until I met my favorite dude, Jordan. He apparently pays no attention to the lyrics of songs; and despite the fact that he has rocked out to Zep II since basically birth, still thinks that Robert Plant is singing about Helen Keller, the world's greatest historian, apparently.
Where as I, a lyric lover, can tell you all about Paul Simon and his mischievous buddy, Julio - verbatim. (I cannot however tell you what Paul, Julio, and Rosie were actually doing down by the schoolyard - as this is a mystery, locked away somewhere with that thing Indy Jones was trying to find that one time. Anyways...) Lyrics are important to me is what I'm getting at here.
Although, he is right that I should be able to recognize the drum solo from Moby Dick.
So, it's a stalemate I suppose.
WAIT
We can totally solve this in the same way we solve all other philosophical quandaries - with a fictional deathmatch of a ridiculous pairing!
Ok, so who would win in a live action, Music VS Lyrics battle to the death?
Let's say Lyrics sends James Taylor as their champion and Music sends prodigal son Jimmy Page; let's face it, James Taylor will shutter as he hears the footsteps of Page descend into the arena. The sight of the dragon pants would cause ol' Fire and Rain to melt into a pile of tears. I mean, I love James Taylor, don't get me wrong, but...
Music 1; Lyrics 0

I don't listen to lyrics either... Even if I know every word to a song I don't necessarily know what I'm saying. On the other hand, the beat I will definitely know.
